WTO approves duties on EU goods for US
October 14
13:00 2019

Today, a special meeting of the World Trade Organization has been held in Geneva. Its members approved the introduction of duties on EU goods imported into the United States.

The volume of goods shipped is estimated at $ 7.5 billion per year. This step was a response to illegal EU financing of the aircraft concern Airbus SE.

We recall that official Washington said earlier that the duties would be imposed on October 18. This is about such duties as a 10% tax on aircraft from the EU and a 25% tax on certain goods in the industrial and agricultural sectors.

The European Union has indicated that the United States subsidized Boeing, which the WTO also declared illegal. The dispute between the States and the EU has been going on for 15 years, but only now the parties have started taking specific actions. At the beginning of next year, retaliatory duties will be imposed on US goods shipped to the EU.

The list of US goods that will be taxed has become available to the public. Experts estimate their total amount at $ 12 billion.
