The subsidiary firm of A1 Telekom Austria, A1 Payments, announced that users can now pay with cryptocurrency in its app for cashless payments, according to CoinDesk.com. The currencies available at the moment include Bitcoin, Ether, and Dash. Users can choose any digital coins for making the payments in the app. In turn, the app will convert them and deliver funds to retailers in traditional currencies.
Having the option to use cryptocurrencies for making payments will help around 2,500 retailers to have access to accepting funds in Bitcoin and other crypto. As reported, this service follows the previous year’s decision to integrate AliPay and WeChat Pay.
The reason why A1 Telekom has decided to allow cryptocurrency payments is because of the large number of internationals using their services. Many people keep their funds in digital assets. However, without crypto integration, they could not use those to pay for the services. This is applicable to both casual travelers as well as those going on business trips.
Following that, there was a pilot trial, and now it seems that the program is finally taking definitive shape. However, there is more to know about the new platform, so more information should follow after the initial announcement.
