After a long wait, mass vaccinations against Covid-19 are in full swing in some countries. And more will join as the vaccines become available on a wider scale. A recent report by Bloomberg highlights that over 12 million doses of approved vaccines have been given to residents in 30 countries around the world, with 4.28 million doses given in the US since December 14, 2020.

Bloomberg highlights the seven Covid-19 vaccines that are already available to the public and used in vaccination campaigns. The source also mentions the effectiveness of each vaccine. According to it, Covid-19 vaccines by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, for instance, are effective in reducing the virus by 95%. Moreover, it closely followed the R&D of several other vaccines besides Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna. These include AstraZeneca/Oxford, Novavax, Johnson & Johnson, Sinovac Biotech, Gamaleya, CanSino Biologics, and Sinopharm.

Countries around the world are already reserving high quantities of vaccine doses for their vaccination campaigns. However, as the report shows, some of these vaccines require storage conditions (freezing temperatures) that make it more difficult to ship them to countries located far away. On the other hand, countries like Russia and China, for instance, will make use of the vaccines developed locally instead of striking deals with other suppliers, the report suggests.

This website allows to track coronavirus-related statistics. That includes the number of vaccinations administered in various parts of the globe each day, among other data. What will become the largest vaccination campaign in the planet’s history has started.
